Individual Counselling

People seek out individual therapy is to improve their sense of well being through understanding their feelings, thoughts and behaviours.  The form of therapy used is determined by the goals of the client, which are set at the beginning of therapy.  By exploring and facilitating change in these areas, clients are able to develop new skills and insight, and greater flexibility in coping with the demands of daily living.

There are many styles of individual therapy, including Schema Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Insight Oriented therapies.  Cognitive Behavioural Therapy focuses on both learning to replace negative behaviours and thought patterns with more adaptive ones, and on learning to face specific fears.  This approach is often used to help clients overcome excessive worry, panic, depression, anxiety and relationship problems. In Insight Oriented therapies, the client focuses on exploring and understanding themselves regarding both conscious and unconscious material. This can include experiences from the past, which may be affecting one’s current functioning. Schema Therapy is an integrative form of counseling, incorporating both CBT and Insight Oriented Therapies.  It has the benefit of drawing upon the strengths of both approaches, leading to  dramatic changes in personal functioning.
