Anxiety Counselling

People with anxiety usually experience excessive worry and stress about daily life. They may find themselves continually anticipating disasterous outcomes, which are out of proportion to the event at hand. Some worry is a normal part of life, however when it has an ongoing negative impact on quality of life, it has become a problem.

Problems with anxiety may also be associated with panic disorder, OCD, PTSD, and depression.  Genetics, brain chemistry, learned responses and stressful life events may play a role in its development, however treatment has been shown to be very effective in overcoming excessive worry and anxiety.

Interventions for anxiety may include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, progressive relaxation training, and insight oriented therapy, among others. With practice in therapy, people learn to recognize anxiety based thoughts and beliefs, and to develop less fearful responses to anxiety producing situations. Frances Miller is experienced in offering both long and short term counselling for anxiety related concerns, depending on the concerns and goals identified by the client.
